Rick began his professional career in Michigan as a math & science teacher at Kearsley Schools near Flint and later was a full-time faculty of Oakland University's School of Health Sciences in Rochester. At Oakland, Rick co-authored a book used as a supplemental text in exercise science classes around the country. (link) He has earned two master's degrees from accredited universities. The first was a Master of Arts in Teaching and the second was a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology.
Rick established DeLorme Photography in 1992 and built his studio in 1995.
Rick has now completed his Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America (PP of A), an honor earned by only 3% of the 22,000 members of the PP of A. The award ceremony was held in January of 2009 in Phoenix, AZ at Imaging USA, the national convention of the PP of A.
Rick has won numerous National Merit Awards in the photographic competitions of the PP of A. He has also won the 97/98 "Top Seven" award from the Professional Photographers of Michigan for being one of the top seven photographers in Michigan. He was awarded the 2009 Fuji Masterpiece Award and a blue ribbon for a wedding album entered in competition at the annual convention of the Professional Photographers of Michigan, February 2009. Rick's award-winning photographs include images produced in Hawaii, Florida and Michigan.
Rick's studio is located on ten acres between the towns of Davison and Lapeer, Michigan. The grounds have many beautiful scenes that are used for the outdoor portrait sessions shown in the high school senior and family sections of this web site.
After twenty years of professional photography, Rick has continued to study with the best photographers from all over the world. Likewise, Rick teaches his methods to photographers from around the world. He has hosted photographers from states and provinces near and far and from other countries including Australia.
Rick's work has been featured in an article written by Monte Zucker in an issue of Professional Photographer, the monthly publication of the PP of A. The article features special lighting techniques of candid photography.
